OVERVIEW

About Chromatography Data Systems

Chromatography Data Systems sit at the junction between analytical instruments and the regulated data record. They handle acquisition from LC, GC, and HPLC hardware, apply integration and calibration, manage method and sequence libraries, and produce reviewable results that downstream QA, manufacturing, and regulatory functions can sign off on. The operational tension in this category is well understood: instrument control wants to live close to the bench, while data review, archival, and audit obligations push toward centralised governance. Analytical chemists, lab managers, and QA reviewers are the day-to-day users, and their workflows are shaped less by feature novelty than by instrument driver coverage, validation overhead, and how cleanly results move into adjacent LIMS or ELN systems.

Two patterns stand out in the current directory. Deployment is heavily on-premise — roughly three quarters of listed CDS products run locally, with hybrid arrangements making up most of the remainder and pure SaaS still a small share. That reflects the reality of instrument-coupled acquisition and the cost of revalidating cloud-hosted environments. The second signal is compliance density: more than half of the category explicitly covers 21 CFR Part 11, and around 40% address broader GxP scope, consistent with a user base concentrated in pharma, biotech, and CRO settings. AI-assisted features appear in only a handful of options so far.
