Overview

Mnova ElViS (Electronic and Vibrational Spectroscopies) is a plugin from Mestrelab designed to visualize, process, analyze, and report data from a wide range of optical spectroscopy techniques. It supports ultraviolet and visible (UV/Vis), near and mid infrared (NIR/MIR), Raman, fluorescence, and other spectroscopic methods operating across the full wavelength region from 100 nm to 100 µm. The tool is aimed at organic chemists, medicinal chemists, QC experts, process chemists, and analytical chemists working in academic, government, and industrial settings.

Mnova ElViS is vendor- and operating system-agnostic, making it compatible with instruments and workflows from multiple manufacturers. It integrates seamlessly within the broader Mnova platform alongside related products such as NMR, MSChrom, and Chemometrics plugins, supporting applications including reaction monitoring and optimization, identification and quantification, and structure characterization.

Supported File Formats

  • SPC (Galactic)
  • JCAMP-DX
  • OPUS (Bruker)
  • Single and multi-spectrum SPA and SPG (Omnic)
  • Perkin Elmer blocked structured (*.sp)
  • ASCII (XY and XYY) as .txt or .csv files, including single and multi-column matrix-like spectra

Main Processing Features

  • PLS-based baseline correction using the IarPLS (penalized-least-squares based) algorithm, featuring an automatic button to compute the near-optimal asymmetry parameter
  • Multipoint Baseline Correction for tailored manual baseline adjustment
  • Three normalization processing modes: Largest Peak, Integral, and Vector Length, designed to address quantitative issues and streamline workflows
  • Standard Normal Variate (SNV) normalization
  • Multiplicative Scatter Correction
  • Probabilistic Quotient Normalization
  • Multiple smoothing techniques including Savitzky-Golay, Nonlocal Means, and Exponential
  • Derivatives computation
  • Units conversion between Absorbance and Transmittance

Spectral Analysis Capabilities

  • Both manual and automatic peak picking, providing flexibility in spectral analysis workflows
  • Advanced tools for the analysis of stacked or arrayed spectra, enabling thorough data evaluation and interpretation
  • Dynamic processing templates to support consistent and repeatable analysis pipelines

Mnova ElViS is available as a free 45-day trial and runs on Windows, macOS, and multiple Linux distributions including Debian 13, RHEL 8/9/10, Ubuntu 22.04/24.04, and as an AppImage. The latest release is version 17.0.0, with supporting guides, manuals, and video resources available through Mestrelab's help portal.
