Qdata Explorer
Real-world ophthalmology data exploration and cohort building for drug development, powered by IRIS Registry data.
Overview
Qdata Explorer is a cloud-based application developed by Verana Health for life sciences companies. It provides access to Verana Health's Ophthalmology Qdata modules — disease-specific, research-ready datasets derived from the American Academy of Ophthalmology IRIS® Registry (Intelligent Research in Sight), of which Verana Health is the exclusive data curation and analytics partner. The platform is designed to allow users across an organization to explore real-world electronic health record (EHR) data and build patient cohorts without requiring coding expertise.
The underlying data is sourced from the IRIS Registry, a longitudinal database spanning multiple years and covering tens of millions of unique patients, billions of patient encounters, and thousands of contributing clinicians. Verana Health ingests, curates, and analyzes this data using AI technology to produce de-identified, research-ready Qdata sets focused on ophthalmology conditions.
Key Benefits
- Provides access to high-quality, de-identified data without requiring coding knowledge from end users.
- Supports faster hypothesis generation by offering pre-curated, exclusive datasets.
- Offers a unique data source available only through Verana Health's partnership with the IRIS Registry.
Core Capabilities
- Cohort-level visualizations through an intuitive dashboard interface.
- Access to real-world EHR data from the IRIS Registry for rapid feasibility studies.
- Insights into patient demographics, clinician specialties, and patient outcomes.
- De-identified, curated data from an expansive clinician network.
- Team-based cohort building and sharing without the need for programming skills.
Available Ophthalmology Qdata Modules
- Diabetic Retinopathy (DR): Key variables include visual acuity and central subfield thickness (CST).
- Dry Age-related Macular Degeneration (dAMD): Key variables include visual acuity and geographic atrophy diagnosis, extracted from EHR data.
- Wet Age-related Macular Degeneration (nAMD): Key variables include visual acuity and central subfield thickness (CST), extracted from EHR data.
- Geographic Atrophy (GA): Key variables include GA diagnosis, visual acuity, lesion location, lesion growth rate, and lesion size, perimeter, and count.
Use Across the Drug Development Lifecycle
- Supports deep patient insights at multiple stages of drug development.
- Enables rapid feasibility studies using real-world data.
- Facilitates exploration of patient demographics and clinical outcomes relevant to ophthalmology indications.
Qdata Explorer is deployed as a cloud-based application. Verana Health can work with life sciences organizations to add additional Qdata modules beyond the currently available ophthalmology conditions. The platform draws exclusively on data from the IRIS Registry, which as of May 2025 represents one of the largest longitudinal ophthalmology databases available.
