Mindpeak Urothel PD-L1
Automated detection and quantification of PD-L1 expression in urothelial carcinoma histopathology images.
Overview
Mindpeak Urothel PD-L1 is a standalone software module developed by Mindpeak GmbH for automated image analysis of digital histopathology images. It is designed to detect and quantify PD-L1 expression in scanned, fixed, and PD-L1-stained human urothelial cancer tissue samples. The tool is intended for Research Use Only and is not for use in diagnostic procedures.
The module processes whole slide images to classify immunohistochemically (IHC) stained tumor cells and calculate a tumor proportion score (TPS), supporting researchers working with urothelial carcinoma samples.
Output and Scoring
- Detects and classifies IHC-stained tumor cells within whole slide images, categorising each cell as either unstained (tumor negative) or stained (tumor positive).
- Calculates a tumor proportion score (TPS), defined as the number of positive tumor cells divided by the total number of tumor cells (positive plus negative).
- Distinguishes between tumorous and non-tumorous structures to improve scoring accuracy within the tumor microenvironment.
Workflow Steps
- Retrieve or select a whole slide image with IHC PD-L1 staining suited for automated analysis.
- The module performs whole slide analysis and displays the results.
- Review, adjust, and correct the automated analysis results using an integrated interactive viewer module.
- Conclude a final diagnostic or research decision based on the reviewed output.
Key Capabilities
- Image pre-calculation runs in the background, enabling instant visualisation of all detected and classified cells upon loading a digital slide, requiring no additional user interaction to initiate analysis (described as a "0-click" approach).
- Developed to account for typical lab-specific variations including slide preparation, staining protocols, and imaging conditions, allowing consistent results across different laboratory environments.
- Supports a broad range of slide scanners and is designed to integrate into existing digital pathology workflows.
Technical Requirements
- Requires integration into an interactive image viewer software that allows users to manually select or correct regions of interest.
- Runs as a web service, available either as a cloud-hosted solution specified and provided by Mindpeak or its distribution partners, or as an on-premise deployment on a dedicated server within the laboratory network.
- The cloud variant requires no additional hardware from the user; on-premise minimum hardware requirements are available on request.
Mindpeak Urothel PD-L1 is developed by Mindpeak GmbH, a Hamburg-based company founded in 2018 that builds AI and deep learning-based automation tools for visual diagnosis in pathology. The tool is classified as Research Use Only unless otherwise stated.
