FEGA-Norway
Secure repository for genetic and phenotypic data with federated cross-border sharing and fine-grained access control.
Overview
FEGA-Norway is the Norwegian Federated Node of the European Genome-Phenome Archive (EGA), operated by ELIXIR Norway and hosted by the University of Oslo. It provides a secure repository for personally identifiable genetic and phenotypic data generated by biomedical research projects, enabling controlled access and cross-border sharing of human omics data while keeping data stored within Norwegian national infrastructure.
As part of the broader Federated EGA network, FEGA-Norway allows metadata to be discoverable through the central EGA portal while the underlying data remains under Norwegian jurisdiction. The service is intended for researchers and institutions that need to deposit, manage, or access sensitive human genomic and phenotypic datasets in compliance with privacy regulations and data consent conditions.
Key Features
- Secure data deposition: supports the deposit of personally identifiable genetic and phenotypic data with controlled access management.
- Federated architecture: data is stored within Norwegian infrastructure while metadata remains discoverable via the central EGA portal.
- Cross-border sharing: facilitates international collaboration on human omics data within a governed framework.
- Access control: provides fine-grained data access management to support compliance with privacy regulations and individual consent conditions.
- Search and retrieval: datasets can be discovered and access requests submitted through either the main EGA portal or the local Norwegian node.
- Standards compliance: aligned with European data protection requirements and ELIXIR interoperability standards.
Getting Started
- Information on the submission process and access policies is available at ega.elixir.no.
- Data can be deposited and retrieved through the FEGA-Norway portal or the main EGA portal.
FEGA-Norway is part of the ELIXIR Norway service portfolio and operates within the federated EGA infrastructure, which coordinates secure human data sharing across multiple European national nodes.
