Overview

RetinAI Discovery® for Clinics is a web-based platform developed by Ikerian AG, designed for ophthalmologists and optometrists working in clinics and hospitals. It centralises patient data management and applies AI models — including CE-marked and research use only (RUO) tools — to support disease evaluation, tele-ophthalmology workflows, and patient engagement.

The platform offers two tailored packages, one for ophthalmologists and one for optometrists, both built around the same core modules: data collection, AI insights, clinical workflows, tele-ophthalmology, and a patient passport feature.

Patient Data Management

  • Provides a single platform to view and navigate all patient data, including OCT volumes, fundus images, DICOM datasets, PDFs, JPEG, PNG, and TIFF files.
  • Eliminates the need for multiple viewers by consolidating all imaging and document types in one place.
  • Uploaded clinic data is automatically harmonised and structured at scale, then processed in real time with AI for endpoint and measure extraction and biomarker identification.

AI Models and Disease Evaluation

  • RetinAI OCT Atlas® (CE-marked): Performs precise retinal layer segmentation and fluid segmentation and quantification, covering Intraretinal Fluid (IRF), Subretinal Fluid (SRF), Pigment Epithelium Detachment (PED)/DRUSEN, and amorphous material including hyperreflective material in the subretinal space. Provides measurements for layers including RNFL, GCL+IPL, INL+OPL, ONL+HFL, Myoid Zone, Ellipsoid Zone, OPR, Interdigitation Zone, RPE, and Choriocapillaris and Choroidal Stroma. An enface view provides thickness measurements and highlights attenuation or thinning of layers.
  • Advanced OCT Segmentation (RUO): Extends analytical capabilities with automated detection and quantification of Hyperreflective Foci (HRF), Subretinal Drusenoid Deposits (SDD), and Epiretinal Membrane (ERM). Includes thickness and volume measurements, ONL+HFL, photoreceptor and RPE depletion maps, and automated fovea localisation. Designed for longitudinal disease progression studies and high-level clinical research.
  • Macula Biomarkers AI Model: Provides probability of presence or absence of retinal biomarkers at a B-scan level within OCT volumes. Identified biomarkers include SRF, IRF, Fibrous PED, Hyperreflective Foci, Drusen, Reticular Pseudodrusen (RPD), Epiretinal Membrane (ERM), Geographic Atrophy (GA), and Outer Retinal Atrophy (ORA).
  • Geographic Atrophy Progression (RUO): Segments GA from OCT scans and simulates personalised atrophy progression based on visit data. Predicts EZ, MZ, and RPE layer depletion over 54 months in 6-month increments for patients with GA secondary to AMD. Automated outputs include progression maps (en-face depletion areas at nine time points) and ETDRS area measurements per segment across all time points.
  • Diabetic Retinopathy Screening with LuxIA® (CE-marked, Class IIb): Screens adult diabetic patients for more-than-mild diabetic retinopathy (mtmDR) by processing 45° colour fundus images from Topcon or equivalent devices. Reports 97% sensitivity and 95% specificity, supporting timely specialist referrals. Runs within the RetinAI Discovery® platform.

Tele-Ophthalmology

  • Supports secure, real-time peer referrals on a unified platform.
  • Replaces unsecured email-based data sharing with a platform where data is securely stored and access can be granted directly.
  • Enables immediate evaluation and swift data sharing between clinicians.

Patient Passport

  • Allows patients to access their own clinical data through the Discovery platform.
  • Supports patient engagement through the creation of remote questionnaires.

Electronic Case Report Forms and Annotation

  • Supports the creation of electronic Case Report Forms (eCRFs) within the platform.
  • Enables image annotation and collection of insights for future reference.

Discovery for Clinics is an online platform developed by Ikerian AG, headquartered in Bern, Switzerland, with a US presence in Boston, MA. The platform's AI models carry CE marking where indicated, with certain modules designated for research use only (RUO). The platform is also available in configurations for life sciences and pharma organisations and medical device manufacturers.
