Admin Panel

The Admin Panel by Code Ocean is a unified management console that gives administrators a single pane of glass to oversee all users, resources, and data across their entire Code Ocean deployment. Designed for IT, engineering, and R&D operations teams in life sciences organisations, it centralises control over compute, environments, authentication, costs, and data standards — eliminating the need to manage these elements in disparate tools.

As part of the broader Code Ocean platform for computational science, the Admin Panel integrates directly with Compute Capsules, Pipelines, Data assets, and ML Models, enabling administrators to govern the full research computing environment from one place.

Analytics and Monitoring

• Monitor usage, costs, storage, and activity across the entire deployment from a single dashboard.
• Drill down into cost per run, per dataset, per user, or per project for granular financial visibility.
• View analytics on new Data assets, Data assets attached to Capsules, and Data assets by type.
• Admins can access direct hyperlinks to users' assets for easy identification and navigation.

Environment Management

• Import and deploy custom base images for use across the deployment.
• Copy environments created from individual Compute Capsules to standardise workflows organisation-wide.
• Admin-managed Starter Environments provide a consistent baseline for all users.
• Custom environments can also be created directly from a Compute Capsule and promoted to organisation-wide use.

Data Standardisation and Metadata

• Establish and enforce organisation-wide standards for data and metadata organisation.
• Define custom key-value pairs with value types set as strings, numbers, or dates.
• Supports FAIR principles by enabling controlled vocabularies and custom metadata to ensure consistency and improve searchability.

Compute Resource Management

• Define availability for dedicated machines based on AWS region.
• Filter available machine types by GPU, CPU, RAM, network performance, cost, and usage status.
• Inactivate dedicated machines to prevent users from selecting them for workflows.
• Manage flex machines and dedicated machines to control what compute is available to users.
• Spot instances, idleness detection, and automated shutdown features help reduce cloud costs.

User Budget Controls

• Set default and per-user budgets for compute resources.
• Monitor usage in real time and receive email alerts when budgets are approached or exceeded.
• Prevent unexpected costs without disrupting active workflows.

Security and Authentication

• Built-in authentication is enabled by default for all deployments.
• SAML SSO is available, allowing admins to integrate with the organisation's existing identity provider.
• Google OpenID Connect (OIDC) is also supported to simplify sign-in to Code Ocean.

User Management

• Manage all user-related tasks from a dedicated User Management window.
• Invite new users and send password resets directly from the console.
• Transfer ownership of computational assets to other users when a team member leaves the organisation.

The Admin Panel is deployed as part of Code Ocean's cloud platform, running on AWS infrastructure. It integrates natively with all Code Ocean modules — including Capsules, Pipelines, Data, Models, and the Lineage Graph — providing a comprehensive governance layer for computational science teams in biotech, pharma, and academic research organisations.
