ICON plc has chosen Microsoft as its preferred technology partner to enhance its digital innovation and AI initiatives over the next three years. This collaboration focuses on deploying Microsoft 365 Copilot and establishing a robust cloud, data, and AI infrastructure to scale ICON's Orbis AI platform.

Through the Orbis platform, ICON is integrating an intelligence layer that connects expertise, data, and AI throughout the clinical trial lifecycle. This approach aims to improve various aspects of trials, including:

  • Accelerating study design through AI-driven protocol digitization and optimization.
  • Streamlining operational processes from feasibility studies to regulatory documentation.
  • Enhancing engagement for patients and sites with intelligent assistants that reduce burdens and improve communication.
  • Strengthening decision-making capabilities by enabling real-time risk detection and trend analysis.

Microsoft will assist in creating a modern data layer using Microsoft Fabric and Azure services, which will unify ICON's clinical and operational data, providing real-time insights at scale. The rollout of Microsoft 365 Copilot across ICON's workforce will further automate repetitive tasks, enhancing productivity.

Barry Balfe, CEO of ICON, emphasized that the partnership with Microsoft is crucial for leading the transition to AI-driven clinical trials, equipping ICON with essential tools to improve efficiency and deliver superior outcomes for clients and patients.
