Calira
Equipment booking and utilisation tracking for R&D labs, with AI-powered data analysis for CapEx planning.
Overview
Calira (formerly Clustermarket) is a smart lab equipment booking platform built for R&D LabOps professionals. It gives researchers an easy, visual way to book shared instruments, helps lab managers eliminate scheduling conflicts and unplanned downtime, and turns everyday booking activity into structured, actionable usage data. Since launching its booking tool in 2019, Calira has facilitated over 12 million lab equipment bookings across more than 1,800 labs, 68,000 instruments, and 82,000 users spanning 53 countries.
The platform is designed around the reality that no two labs operate the same way — different science, different equipment, different workflows, and different pressures. Calira adapts to each lab's specific needs, connecting tactical booking improvements to strategic organisational insight, from the individual bench all the way up to multi-site CapEx planning.
Core Product Modules
- Equipment Management: Build a structured, searchable directory of all lab instruments. Add equipment individually or in bulk via templated CSV import. Enrich records with metadata, location information, purchase price, tags, and labels. Upload safety documents, SOPs, and maintenance contracts with expiry reminders, and assign equipment to specific rooms, labs, or buildings.
- Equipment Booking: Provide lab users with a visual, drag-and-drop calendar interface for reserving the instruments they need. AI-enabled, workflow-based reservations allow booking of multiple instruments in sequence based on protocol and availability. Lab-specific booking rules control how and when users can book, including restrictions based on training status.
- AI and Data Analysis: Chat with an AI data analysis tool to get instant answers about lab activity. Export clean, structured reports covering usage, equipment, maintenance, training, personnel, and sites. Deliver richer reporting to finance teams, data teams, and decision-makers who require it.
- Maintenance Tracking: Prevent downtime through visible maintenance tracking, safer access controls, and smarter user permissions.
- User and Notification Management: Manage user access and permissions across labs, and send automated notifications to keep teams informed.
- LabTrack™: A dedicated capability referenced as part of the platform's broader feature set for tracking lab activity.
