CLEHR
A global eSourcing network connecting sponsors to EHRs, enhancing data collection for clinical studies through secure interoperability, reducing manual data entry and improving data quality.
Overview
CLEHR is a global eSourcing network designed to connect sponsors with health system Electronic Health Records (EHRs), facilitating the access to real-world data at scale for clinical research. By utilizing secure, standards-based interoperability, CLEHR eliminates the need for manual Electronic Data Capture (EDC) management, thereby enhancing the quality and efficiency of research data sets.
Traditional data collection methods in research are often inefficient, relying on outdated manual workflows where Clinical Research Coordinators must transfer EHR data into Case Report Forms (CRFs) within EDC systems. This process is burdensome, time-consuming, and limits the ability of health systems to support research effectively. Moreover, the use of EDC forms restricts study design flexibility and analytical opportunities due to the reliance on manually extracted data.
CLEHR addresses these challenges by providing a practical solution for digital Real-World Data (RWD) transfer from EHR to EDC systems. It overcomes industry barriers such as the lack of a ready network of health system sites and the significant effort required to implement digital capabilities at these sites.
Key Features and Benefits of CLEHR:
- Efficient Data Transfer: Automates 70% of the data transfer process, significantly reducing the need for manual data entry and accelerating evidence generation.
- Elimination of Source Data Verification (SDV): Ensures data accuracy from the source, eliminating the need for SDV requests and reducing SDV time to zero.
- Enhanced Data Quality: Provides granular and relevant data, offering a comprehensive clinical picture and greater insights into patient trends.
CLEHR operates as a secure, honest broker cloud service, seamlessly linking site health system EHRs with sponsor IT systems. This creates a robust network that delivers on the promise of eSourcing at scale, utilizing the USCDI open standards for data transfer without incurring recurring EMR API costs.
In practice, CLEHR has demonstrated its impact through rapid site activation, often enabling sites to go live in less than four weeks. It supports a global patient network of over 80 million, ensuring timely and reliable data collection. Sites can reuse their initial CLEHR connections for multiple studies, eliminating the need for new startup integrations. Additionally, partnerships with Contract Research Organizations (CROs) and EDC vendors further enhance the platform's adoption and efficiency.
