Wearables and Connected Devices
Wearable and connected device integration for digital therapeutics, enabling personalized treatment plans through real-time biomarker and activity data.
Overview
Mahalo's Wearables and Connected Devices module is a component of the Mahalo digital health platform, designed for organizations building Digital Therapeutics (DTx) applications. It enables DTx developers and healthcare providers to collect biomarker and activity data from patients via wearable devices and connected health hardware, feeding that data into treatment workflows and patient-facing visualizations.
The module supports personalizing treatment plans by using real-world patient data to shape individual recommendations within a DTx. Rather than relying solely on static educational content or lifestyle guidance, it allows DTx applications to show patients how their daily behaviors directly affect key health metrics, using timestamped device data mapped to visual displays.
Personalized Treatment Through Connected Data
- Biomarker and activity data collected from connected devices informs individualized treatment recommendations within the DTx
- Data flows automatically from paired wearables to the patient database once a device is connected to a patient's smartphone
- Supports showing patients the direct relationship between lifestyle choices and health outcomes, such as how diet and activity affect blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes
Baseline Setting and Behavioral Feedback
- Patients can continue their normal lifestyle for an initial period while connected devices track and timestamp biomarker data
- Data visualizations display how existing habits negatively affect key biomarkers, establishing a baseline
- Over time, the platform highlights changes in metrics such as weight or blood sugar, linking those changes to specific healthy or unhealthy behaviors
- Positive feedback loops can be built into the DTx to encourage patients as their metrics improve
Device Support and Biomarker Tracking
- Supports over 300 wearables and connected devices, with new integrations added on an ongoing basis
- Custom device integrations for unsupported hardware can typically be added within one to two weeks
- Sample biomarkers trackable through connected devices include:
- Weight
- Electrocardiogram (EKG)
- Blood Pressure
- Heart Rate
- Body Temperature
- Blood Sugar
Mahalo describes itself as a unified digital health platform covering DTx development, eClinical research, and a unified data platform. The platform references compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, ISO standards, and Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and includes security and responsible disclosure policies.
