Seven Bridges Platform
Cloud-based biomedical data analysis and collaboration for genomics research at scale, with reproducible workflows and multi-cloud infrastructure.
Overview
The Seven Bridges Platform is a cloud-based environment designed for biomedical data analysis at scale. It serves as a central hub for research teams to store, analyze, and jointly interpret bioinformatic data, co-locating analysis pipelines alongside the largest genomic datasets to optimize processing and allocating storage and compute resources on demand to meet the needs of ever-growing analyses.
The Platform is built for distributed research groups across biopharma, healthcare, government, and academia. Whether operating in a virtual private cloud, a local high-performance computing environment, or a hybrid of the two, Seven Bridges provides a consistent, familiar environment that scales with the demands of modern genomics research.
Collaboration and Security
- Designed for distributed teams — all tools, data, and compute power live in the cloud or your organization's data center, enabling remote collaboration.
- Granular access controls allow administrators to specify team members' level of access, including read, write, and execution privileges.
- A built-in commenting system enables focused discussions around significant genomic regions.
- Backed by engineering and research support as well as a growing global user community.
- Every aspect of the Platform has been designed for work with confidential patient information and complies with all standards governing health records.
Infrastructure and Scalability
- The only major biomedical data analysis platform to operate across all leading public infrastructure providers: Amazon Web Services, Alibaba, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.
- Supports hybrid cloud deployments — build pipelines and analyze data locally, then engage the cloud when more powerful computing resources are needed.
- Tools and pipelines can be moved between locations using the Common Workflow Language, which Seven Bridges helped develop.
- Elastic scaling of compute instances and parallel pipeline optimization means there are no limits to the number of executions or the amount of data that can be analyzed.
- Elastic scaling significantly reduces processing time — for example, a GATK 2.3 Lite Whole Genome pipeline can be completed in approximately five hours, more than twice as fast as a typical single cloud-based node execution.
Apps, Workflows, and Visualization
- Hosts a complete library of tools and workflows for bioinformatics, with Seven Bridges' bioinformaticians maintaining more than 550 tools and workflows to ensure the latest versions are always available.
- Features a suite of fully customizable visualization tools.
- Includes the Seven Bridges interactive genome browser, purpose-built for collaborative genomic investigations.
Reproducibility and Accuracy
- All analyses on the Platform are fully reproducible — every tool, version, parameter, and piece of data used in an analysis is logged automatically and available for review at a click.
- The complete audit record allows users to track which execution produced a particular output file and enables remote colleagues or journal editors to verify results without distributing code or configuring execution environments.
- Uses state-of-the-art bioinformatic tools and best-practice pipelines, always prioritizing accuracy over speed when tradeoffs are required.
- The Research and Development team continually works to improve variant detection accuracy through Graph Genome references.
Graph Genome (GRAF™ Suite)
- Seven Bridges GRAF™ Suite provides bioinformatics workflows and tools for secondary analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data, based on a pan-genome graph reference.
- Uses graphs rather than strings of bases to represent and analyze genomic information, enabling heavy data compression and operation at unprecedented scale.
- Offers extremely accurate detection of individual genetic variation, with accuracy improving as new sequences are added to the graph.
- Provides complete anonymity for individual genomic sequences.
SDK and API Extensibility
- The Seven Bridges Software Development Kit (SDK) allows users to bring their own software and proprietary tools to the Platform and execute them seamlessly alongside gold-standard research tools and pipelines.
- Users can work with their preferred datasets or sample from the largest library of publicly available data.
- The Seven Bridges API enables full automation — upload and manage data, configure and initiate pipeline executions, and explore and download results programmatically.
- The API supports integration with wider systems including LIMS, sequencing machines, and analysis packages such as R, Java, Jupyter Lab Notebook, and Python, as well as diagnostic reporting services for end-to-end data analysis.
The Seven Bridges Platform is deployable across major cloud providers and on-premises high-performance computing environments, making it suitable for organizations requiring flexible, compliant, and scalable genomic data analysis infrastructure.
