Overview

The Omics Engine Service (OES) is a data discovery and curation platform developed by PIPA, designed for bioinformaticians and researchers who require ML-ready, curated, and standardized omics data to power their next discovery. OES addresses a core challenge in life sciences research: public omics data is heterogeneous, non-standardized, often lacking sufficient metadata, and scattered across disparate sources, forcing scientists to spend months manually curating datasets before any meaningful analysis can begin.

OES catalogs raw omics data and curates associated metadata into a standardized, high-resolution, and analysis-ready format, enabling researchers to identify candidate leads and advance indication experiments without compromising data quality or accuracy. The platform currently covers over 1,750 curated samples, 250+ datasets, 10+ omics types, and 450+ publications and BioProjects.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Reduce curation time by over 75%: For health conditions available in OES, researchers can access quality datasets and metadata in minutes that would otherwise take expert teams months to curate, eliminating time, effort, and cost spent wrangling heterogeneous and messy data.
  • FAIR-standardized, consistent data: OES ensures that only high-quality, up-to-date, and standardized data is made available. While a large volume of public omics data exists, less than 20% is of sufficient quality and compatibility for integration; OES filters and prepares data to meet rigorous standards for downstream analysis.
  • Three curation depth levels: Users can choose from raw (datasets without standardized metadata), basic (general information about samples and files), and premium (detailed metadata reflecting data quality, consistency, and processing guidance) curation tiers to match their specific analytical needs.
  • Custom curation services: When available curation levels are insufficient, PIPA's dedicated team of biocurators provides high-precision, custom curation including comorbidity status, post-treatment status, unique sample categorization, and more.
  • Bring your own data: OES supports integration of proprietary datasets with publicly curated data, enabling organizations to maximize the value of internal research assets while maintaining the highest quality standards with access restricted to the data owner.

Data Quality and Maintenance

  • OES is an enterprise-level solution maintained through automated pipelines and monthly updates, ensuring access to the latest public data for any given health condition.
  • Manual quality control is supported by internally developed workbench tools built for PIPA's biocurators, ensuring ongoing data integrity.
  • Data is accessible via an API, allowing bioinformaticians and scientists to efficiently search for and download datasets programmatically.

Integration with LEAP™ AI Discovery Platform

  • OES integrates with LEAP™, PIPA's AI scientific discovery application, to extend the insights derived from omics analysis.
  • LEAP™ consolidates over 28 million scientific papers and abstracts, 60+ knowledge bases, clinical trials, and bioinformatics data into a single knowledge graph containing 211 million known and predicted connections.
  • OES-supported analyses can be automatically integrated into LEAP™ to identify additional evidence, uncover novel indications, and guide experimental design in an optimal and informed manner.

OES was built by scientists for scientists, originating from PIPA's own need for high-quality omics data in internal and client projects focused on indication and candidate lead generation. The platform is suited for life sciences organizations looking to reduce the operational burden of omics data curation, accelerate discovery workflows, and de-risk experimental outcomes through reliable, standardized data.
