CopyCount
Absolute DNA/RNA copy number quantification from qPCR curves without standard curves or digital PCR equipment.
Overview
CopyCount™ is a qPCR analysis software developed by DNA Software that determines the absolute number of DNA or RNA copies in every well of a qPCR plate. It is designed for researchers who need absolute quantification — such as measuring viral load, bacterial load, or standardizing reference stocks — without the cost and complexity of Digital PCR instrumentation or traditional standard curve methods.
The software works by analyzing the shape of qPCR fluorescence curves to deduce the absolute copy number at cycle zero. This approach eliminates the need for standard curves, sample dilution, or excessive replicates, and is compatible with existing qPCR instruments rather than requiring new equipment purchases.
Core Capabilities
- Determines absolute DNA/RNA copy number directly from individual qPCR fluorescence curves, without a standard curve
- Reports copy number at cycle zero, removing the need to interpret Ct or Cq values that vary across assays, machines, and plates
- Delivers copy number results reported to be 3–4 times more precise than the Ct method
- Provides absolute quantification within 5% error using existing lab equipment and methods
- Supports applications including viral load determination, bacterial load measurement, and reference stock standardization
Advantages Over Standard Curve and Digital PCR Methods
- Eliminates the preparation and running of quantification standards, reducing reagent use and freeing up plate wells for unknown samples
- Removes two common sources of user error: standard quantification and standard curve generation
- Offers higher sample throughput than Digital PCR while using existing qPCR instrumentation
- Reduces cost per well by replacing control wells with additional sample wells
- Functions as a cost-effective alternative to Digital PCR without requiring new capital equipment
