Bio-AI Agent
AI-driven orchestration and decision support across lab LIMS, ELN, and manufacturing execution for faster, compliant research and production.
Overview
Bio AI Agent is an AI-driven platform developed by Bio LIMS Inc that serves as an intelligent coordination layer across laboratory and manufacturing operations. It is designed for life science laboratories spanning research through manufacturing, connecting five core systems — Bio-LIMS, Bio-Research, Bio-CELL, Bio-Bank, and Bio-MES — to support paperless, traceable, and compliant lab workflows.
The agent operates on a "sense — decide — act — feedback" loop, combining a large language model (LLM) for understanding and reasoning with agentic orchestration for execution. In this architecture, the LLM functions as the reasoning engine, the agent layer handles orchestration, and connected digital tools such as LIMS, ELN, and MES systems carry out task execution.
Five Core Connected Systems
- Bio-LIMS: Manages the full paperless workflow for precision medicine labs, from sample intake and testing through to report generation.
- Bio-Research: Automatically links experimental data with literature to support traceability and project management for researchers.
- Bio-CELL: Provides end-to-end traceability from donor to patient for cell and gene therapy workflows, supporting compliance and safety requirements.
- Bio-Bank: Tracks the status and location of biobank samples with precision.
- Bio-MES: Connects labs and production lines for CRO/CDMO environments, reducing data silos and supporting the path from concept to commercialization.
Core Capabilities and Use Cases
- Data Parsing and Structuring: Converts raw experiment logs, instrument readings, PDFs, and images into structured data compatible with LIMS and ELN systems.
- Decision Support: Generates interpretable recommendations for QC decisions, release approvals, and priority scheduling based on historical data and models.
- Knowledge Capture: Automatically extracts experiment highlights into searchable knowledge bases and knowledge graphs.
- Intelligent Experimental Simulation: Anticipates potential issues and suggests parameter adjustments to reduce trial-and-error cycles.
- Multi-modal Data Fusion: Integrates omics, imaging, clinical, and QC data to support cross-domain analytics and modeling.
- Compliance and Audit Support: Records agent reasoning and confidence scores for each decision and writes immutable audit entries to meet regulatory requirements.
Technical Highlights
- Event-driven architecture combined with workflow orchestration tools (such as Prefect and Airflow) for triggers, retries, and auditing.
- LLM and tooling integration, where agents call instrument APIs, LIMS/ELN interfaces, and rule engines.
- Explainability and confidence thresholds, with critical actions requiring human-in-the-loop (HITL) confirmation and evidence logging.
- Multi-modal processing capabilities including OCR, image analysis, time-series handling, and standard data models covering samples, batches, reagents, and operations.
- Versioning and traceability for all workflows, agent policies, and models to support auditability and rollback.
Reported Benefits
- Shorter experiment and report turnaround times.
- Improved QC decision accuracy and release efficiency.
- Reduced manual documentation and repetitive tasks.
- Faster knowledge capture and translation to products.
Bio AI Agent is embedded across all five Bio LIMS Inc systems and is intended to function as a unified intelligent layer for laboratories operating across research and manufacturing contexts, with a focus on regulatory compliance, data traceability, and operational efficiency.
