
Ventripoint Diagnostics has announced that its VMS+ technology will play a crucial role in a pioneering NHS study aimed at detecting chemotherapy-related heart damage in breast cancer patients.
The study, named AIRES (Artificial Intelligence Reconstruction of Echocardiography Study), is being conducted at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust and is notable for being the first of its kind to focus specifically on oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy. It will include over 500 participants and aims to evaluate whether AI can enhance the speed and accuracy of heart function assessments compared to traditional methods. This could lead to earlier interventions for patients experiencing cardiac side effects from chemotherapy.
VMS+ will be assessed alongside another AI technology, Ligence AI, which automates the analysis of two-dimensional echocardiographic images. Ventripoint's technology is expected to provide advanced three-dimensional reconstructions, delivering precise cardiac measurements akin to MRI results. This dual approach is anticipated to improve clinical workflows and reduce waiting times for echocardiography services.
Dr. Sandeep Hothi, leading the study, emphasized the potential of AI technologies to enhance routine echocardiography for cancer patients, thereby facilitating earlier detection of heart dysfunction. Ventripoint's CEO, Hugh MacNaught, highlighted the significance of this study in addressing cardiotoxicity risks in cancer treatment and the opportunity to validate the effectiveness of VMS+ in real-world clinical settings.
