The Telangana government is set to establish a Green Skills and Applied AI Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad, aimed at equipping youth with skills in artificial intelligence and sustainable manufacturing. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Microsoft, the 1M1B Foundation, and MeitY Startup Hub, is expected to commence operations by August 2026.
The Centre is part of a broader strategy to enhance Telangana's status as a key player in India's life sciences and pharmaceutical sectors. It aligns with the state's Next-Generation Life Sciences Policy 2026–30 and supports the ambitious Green Pharma City project, which aims to create a major integrated pharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystem focused on sustainability.
Key stakeholders, including IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, emphasized that the Centre will develop industry-ready talent skilled in applying AI to various domains such as pharmaceutical manufacturing and renewable energy. This initiative seeks to address the skills gap by offering practical, application-oriented training rather than traditional academic approaches.
By integrating AI with green manufacturing, Telangana aims to boost industrial competitiveness and create new job opportunities. The Hyderabad facility will be one of five planned Centres of Excellence across India, targeting the engagement of 100,000 young individuals by 2030, thereby fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in future-ready sectors.
This initiative underscores Telangana's ambition to position itself as a global hub for life sciences and deep technology, building on its existing strengths like Genome Valley, a significant contributor to India's pharmaceutical exports.
