The Telangana government has announced a collaboration with Microsoft and other organizations to establish a Green Skills and Applied AI Centre of Excellence (CoE) focused on Green Pharma in Hyderabad.
Set to be operational by August 2026, this initiative aims to equip the youth with skills that merge artificial intelligence with sustainable manufacturing practices, thereby bolstering the state's life sciences and green manufacturing sectors. The project aligns with Telangana's Next-Generation Life Sciences Policy 2026-30 and the Green Pharma City strategy, emphasizing the importance of a workforce capable of meeting future industry demands.
During the announcement, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu highlighted that the CoE will play a crucial role in generating employment within the life sciences ecosystem by developing an AI-ready workforce. Microsoft India’s Rajiv Kumar noted that AI is becoming integral to sustainable industries, suggesting that the combination of applied AI and green skills could significantly enhance productivity in pharmaceutical operations.
This Centre is envisioned as a hub for workforce development and innovation, where participants will engage with real-world industry challenges. It will feature dedicated learning zones for applied AI, Green Pharma, and renewable energy, alongside opportunities for internships, mentorship, and project work. The initiative is part of a larger national effort to engage 100,000 youth in applied AI and green skills by 2030, fostering both employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
