Tata Motors is refocusing its efforts on enhancing product quality and service after a period of significant growth in passenger vehicle volumes. CEO Shailesh Chandra highlighted the company's strategy to proactively improve quality through the integration of AI, digital engineering, and total quality management (TQM).

The company has reported a nearly 60% reduction in early-life vehicle issues, attributing this improvement to stricter quality controls and enhanced logistics. Chandra acknowledged that rapid expansion and technological complexity have previously strained after-sales service and product quality. To address these challenges, Tata Motors is implementing advanced testing methods, including hardware-in-loop and software-in-loop validations, alongside digital twins for virtual product validation.

Tata Motors aims to leverage AI and telematics to identify defects earlier in the manufacturing process, enhancing precision manufacturing capabilities across its plants. This shift is expected to facilitate continuous improvement and early defect detection throughout a vehicle's lifecycle, according to Mohan Savarkar, the company's chief product officer.

Furthermore, TQM will extend to engineering, manufacturing, and after-sales operations, with AI-driven diagnostic tools being introduced to streamline fault detection and reduce repair times. This strategic shift positions Tata Motors to not only enhance customer satisfaction but also to sustain its growth trajectory in a competitive market.
