Swiss startup Moonlight AI has secured €2.8 million in Seed funding to enhance diagnostic capabilities through innovative image analysis technology.
Moonlight AI, established in 2022, is focused on developing AI-driven solutions for clinical diagnostics, specifically aiming to transform routine blood and cytology imaging into actionable genomic insights. The recent funding round was co-led by notable investors including Lotus One Investment and VP Venture Partners, with the goal of democratizing access to genomic data for cancer diagnostics. CEO Christian Ruiz emphasized that their technology allows labs to derive immediate results from existing workflows, eliminating the need for costly hardware or manual interventions.
The startup's approach addresses a critical bottleneck in precision oncology, where Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) is often hindered by high costs and extended turnaround times. Moonlight AI utilizes computer vision to identify genomic biomarkers directly from conventional imaging, streamlining diagnostic processes and enhancing the speed of patient care.
With the new funding, Moonlight AI plans to expand its proprietary data library and develop diagnostic solutions for conditions such as myelodysplastic syndrome and non-small cell lung cancer. The company is also transitioning to a Swiss Stock Corporation, which will facilitate its international growth and commercialization efforts. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Stefan Habringer highlighted the importance of diverse clinical data in advancing AI-based diagnostics, indicating a collaborative approach with hospitals and labs to refine their models.
