Siemens Mobility is set to enhance its global rail diagnostics capabilities through the acquisition of key businesses from the Italian firm MERMEC Group, known for its expertise in rail technology.
This acquisition encompasses MERMEC's operations in wayside signalling, electrification, telecommunications, diagnostics, and analytics, which collectively employ around 1,700 personnel and serve clients in over 70 countries. The businesses involved reportedly generated approximately EUR 430 million in revenue for the fiscal year 2025. Notably, the deal does not include MERMEC’s investments in certain subsidiaries.
Michael Peter, CEO of Siemens Mobility, emphasized that this transaction will synergize MERMEC's technological strengths with Siemens' extensive global presence, thereby enhancing their capabilities in diagnostics and signalling. This strategic move is expected to solidify Siemens' position in the growing railway market and expand its operational footprint in Italy.
The integration of MERMEC’s diagnostic vehicles and systems into Siemens’ existing offerings is anticipated to create a robust and scalable analytics platform, enhancing service delivery for Siemens Mobility's clients. This acquisition aligns with Siemens' long-term strategy to bolster its competitiveness in the global rail infrastructure sector.
