Singapore General Hospital (SGH) has implemented an innovative AI tool, iScreen, designed to expedite the detection of suspected brain bleeds on CT scans. This development marks a significant advancement in the hospital's radiology capabilities, enhancing the speed and efficiency of clinical responses to intracranial hemorrhage (ICH).

Collaboratively created with the national health tech agency Synapxe and Iota MedTech, iScreen operates within SGH's existing radiology infrastructure. It automatically assesses head CT scans for signs of ICH, providing rapid results that help prioritize urgent cases. The tool not only alerts radiologists but also identifies the specific type of hemorrhage and highlights relevant images for review, thus streamlining the diagnostic process.

In a validation study involving nearly 3,500 CT scans, iScreen demonstrated impressive performance metrics, achieving 97.2% accuracy and significantly reducing reporting times for positive cases. Clinicians reported that the AI alerts improved their ability to prioritize urgent scans, which is crucial given that SGH conducts around 18,000 brain CT scans annually, with a notable percentage indicating acute ICH.

This initiative reflects a broader trend in Singapore's healthcare system, where AI is increasingly integrated into medical imaging to enhance patient outcomes. By continuing to refine iScreen’s capabilities and exploring additional applications, SGH aims to improve the speed and accuracy of diagnoses, ultimately contributing to better patient care and outcomes in critical situations.
