Sanofi has entered a five-year licensing agreement with Owkin to utilize its AI scientist, K Pro, aimed at advancing biopharmaceutical development.
This collaboration highlights a growing trend among major pharmaceutical companies to integrate AI technologies into their workflows. Owkin's K Pro is designed to function as an intelligent assistant, streamlining complex tasks in drug research and development. The partnership will enhance Sanofi’s existing capabilities in agentic AI, allowing for more efficient data utilization and decision-making throughout the drug development process.
The agreement follows a recent similar partnership between Owkin and AstraZeneca, which also aims to leverage K Pro's capabilities. Other pharmaceutical giants, such as Pfizer and Bristol Myers Squibb, are also pursuing AI collaborations, indicating a significant shift towards AI-driven innovation in the industry.
Owkin’s CEO, Thomas Clozel, emphasized that this collaboration marks a pivotal moment in embedding AI within Sanofi's operations, while Sanofi's Chief Digital Officer, Emmanuel Frenehard, noted the importance of investing in advanced AI solutions to enhance decision-making speed and confidence. Since their initial partnership in 2021, focused on oncology and immunology, this new agreement signifies a deeper commitment to AI-driven drug development.
