Samsung Medical Center Launches AI Transformation Task Force, Expands SMC-GPT Across Clinical Operations

Samsung Medical Center (SMC) has initiated an AI Transformation Task Force, aiming to enhance its integration of artificial intelligence across clinical operations and patient services. This initiative includes an upgrade to its in-house conversational AI platform, SMC-GPT, and a push for improved digital connectivity with partner healthcare institutions.

The newly formed AX Task Force will replace the previous Digital Innovation Task Force, focusing specifically on executing AI-driven projects. Dr. Lee Kyu-sung, a Professor of Urology, will lead this initiative, building on the hospital's previous successes in AI research, which included numerous publications and patents.

As part of this transformation, SMC-GPT is being upgraded to a cloud-based infrastructure to enhance its capabilities as an internal AI assistant. This platform will assist with tasks like summarizing medical records and drafting documents, while also serving as an interface for medical robots and automation systems. Additionally, a new AI service named DAIA will be integrated with the hospital's medical information system, streamlining patient interactions and data management.

To improve patient engagement, SMC is revamping its website to facilitate better data sharing between patients and healthcare providers. The integration of biometric data and symptom tracking will enrich clinical assessments. Furthermore, upgrades to the S-CARENet platform will enable partner hospitals to schedule appointments directly and conduct remote consultations, enhancing coordinated care across the healthcare network.

This strategic move by Samsung Medical Center underscores the growing importance of AI in optimizing clinical workflows and enhancing patient management, paving the way for more collaborative healthcare solutions.
