Samsung Bioepis has introduced OPUVIZ, a new biosimilar in Europe that references the well-known Eylea (aflibercept).
This launch represents the fifth biosimilar product from Samsung Bioepis, following a recent introduction of a biosimilar referencing Stelara (ustekinumab) in Japan. The company aims to enhance patient access to ophthalmology treatments with OPUVIZ, as highlighted by Antonio Rito, Vice President and Head of Europe at Samsung Bioepis. He emphasized the importance of collaborating with healthcare professionals and payers to ensure that patients receive safe and effective biosimilar options.
In a previous agreement, Samsung Bioepis secured a settlement with Regeneron and Bayer, allowing for the commercialization of its Eylea biosimilar in Europe and other regions starting January 2026. This strategic move indicates the company's commitment to expanding its biosimilar portfolio globally.
OPUVIZ is also marketed in South Korea under the name AFILIVU, further demonstrating Samsung Bioepis's efforts to provide accessible treatment alternatives in various markets.
