
Strand Life Sciences, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries, has secured a patent for an innovative AI-driven blood test aimed at early cancer detection.
The newly patented technology leverages artificial intelligence and cell-free DNA (cfDNA) analysis to identify early cancer indicators from a simple blood sample. By integrating advanced genome sequencing with machine learning algorithms, the platform can detect significant DNA methylation changes—an established cancer marker—while maintaining critical biological information. This capability allows for the prediction of cancer's tissue of origin, facilitating earlier investigations by healthcare professionals.
Strand's approach represents a significant advancement over traditional screening methods, which often target only a limited range of cancers and require specialized facilities. As genome sequencing becomes more cost-effective, this platform could enable widespread screening, addressing the pressing public health challenge posed by cancer in India, where approximately 1.5 million new cases are reported annually.
Ramesh Hariharan, CEO of Strand Life Sciences, emphasized the importance of early detection in combating cancer, stating that this innovation could enhance the accuracy and accessibility of cancer screening.
