
Quibim has introduced QP-Breast, an innovative AI tool now CE and UKCA-marked, designed to enhance breast cancer detection through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in Europe and the UK. This tool is significant as it is the first of its kind in these regions, automatically identifying suspicious lesions during breast MRI assessments.
QP-Breast aims to support radiologists by improving the accuracy of lesion detection and generating concise, user-friendly reports that integrate with existing hospital systems. With breast cancer being the most prevalent cancer among women worldwide, accounting for 2.3 million new cases annually, the increasing reliance on MRI for screening, especially in high-risk populations, underscores the urgent need for efficient diagnostic tools.
Challenges in radiology, such as increasing scan volumes, workforce shortages, and inconsistencies in image interpretation, can lead to delays in diagnosis and unnecessary procedures. Notably, around 80% of biopsied breast lesions turn out to be benign, highlighting the need for tools that streamline the diagnostic process and reduce patient stress.
Dr. Ángel Alberich-Bayarri, CEO of Quibim, emphasized that QP-Breast is designed to alleviate the pressure on radiology teams by automating time-consuming analysis tasks, allowing clinicians to concentrate on patient care. The tool offers features like automatic highlighting of suspicious areas, detailed reporting on lesion characteristics, and seamless integration into hospital workflows.
The regulatory approval of QP-Breast as a Class IIb medical device in the EU and Class IIa in the UK reflects Quibim’s dedication to advancing AI solutions that enhance imaging capabilities and diagnostic accuracy. This launch follows the success of their QP Prostate tool, further establishing Quibim's role in addressing the growing demands of the healthcare imaging sector.
