Philips and WellSpan Health have forged a seven-year strategic partnership aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery through advanced imaging and AI technologies.
This collaboration marks a pioneering step as it is the first joint innovation initiative between Philips and a U.S. community health system. Unlike traditional vendor relationships, Philips will engage directly with WellSpan to co-develop AI-driven healthcare solutions tailored for community care settings. The partnership encompasses all 12 hospitals within WellSpan’s network, alongside its diagnostic imaging and ambulatory surgery centers, with a focus on improving patient care and operational efficiency.
A key goal of this alliance is to alleviate the administrative workload on healthcare staff. The organizations will conduct research to explore how AI and digital workflow technologies can enhance imaging throughput and reduce care delivery costs. This initiative is expected to help WellSpan reclaim over 500,000 hours of workforce time annually, significantly impacting staff efficiency.
Roxanna Gapstur, President and CEO of WellSpan Health, highlighted the need for a cohesive technology strategy to bolster clinical capabilities and drive innovation within community health systems. The partnership also designates Philips as WellSpan’s preferred vendor for essential imaging technologies, promoting consistency and improved service delivery across the network.
This collaboration underscores the importance of integrating technology and clinical expertise, as emphasized by Roy Jakobs, CEO of Royal Philips. The focus on a platform-based model aims to support clinicians and enhance overall healthcare delivery, setting a precedent for future community health partnerships.
