Pathos AI has expanded its therapeutic pipeline through a significant acquisition from Alphamab Oncology and a collaboration with AstraZeneca, reflecting its commitment to leveraging AI in drug development.

The New York-based biotechnology firm has agreed to pay $125 million for the bispecific antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) JSKN016, which targets TROP2 and HER3. This ADC is already in phase 3 trials, demonstrating its advanced stage in development. Pathos AI utilized its AI-driven decision platform, Foundry, to identify this promising candidate, showcasing its capability to analyze extensive biological and clinical data.

In addition to the upfront payment, Pathos has committed to up to $2.09 billion in milestone payments and royalties, contingent upon the drug's market success. Alphamab is also actively studying JSKN016 in triple-negative breast cancer and is exploring a subcutaneous formulation in early trials.

The partnership with AstraZeneca focuses on AZD4241, a preclinical proteolysis-targeting chimera (PROTAC) aimed at treating estrogen receptor-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer. While financial terms of this collaboration were not disclosed, Pathos will lead the clinical development of this therapy. CEO Iker Huerga emphasized that the challenge in oncology lies in effectively matching therapies to the right patient populations, a task that Foundry is designed to address.

These strategic moves not only enhance Pathos's pipeline, which already includes several promising candidates, but also underline the increasing reliance on AI technologies to streamline drug discovery and optimize clinical trial designs in the competitive life sciences landscape.
