Novant Health has introduced Aubrey, an AI-driven virtual health assistant aimed at improving patient engagement and care coordination.

This innovative tool communicates with patients through text messages, offering personalized information and reminders throughout their healthcare journey. Designed to function within a HIPAA-compliant framework, Aubrey serves as a supplementary support channel that alerts clinicians to potential concerns, while also providing patients direct access to their care teams.

Currently being piloted in collaboration with Qventus, the assistant is initially focused on surgical procedures in the Charlotte area. Aubrey aims to enhance the pre-operative experience by delivering tailored outreach, clear instructions, and 24/7 support, ultimately streamlining communication for both patients and healthcare providers.

Sanjay Gupta, executive vice president and chief transformation officer at Novant Health, emphasized that Aubrey represents a commitment to using AI responsibly in healthcare. He noted that starting with surgical care allows for focused improvements in a critical phase of the patient experience, with plans to expand its functionality to other services in the future.

This initiative not only highlights a significant step in integrating AI into patient care but also underscores the potential for technology to foster trust and enhance clinical collaboration, paving the way for future innovations in the healthcare sector.
