Swiss startup Moonlight AI has successfully secured $3.3 million in seed funding to enhance its AI-driven image analysis aimed at accelerating cancer diagnostics.
The investment round was co-led by Lotus One Investment, VP Venture Partners, and MEDIN Fund, with additional contributions from N&V Capital and QAI Ventures. Moonlight AI, founded by a team including CEO Christian Ruiz, CTO Nicole Romano, and CMO Stefan Habringer, focuses on utilizing computer vision technology to identify genomic biomarkers from standard blood and cytology slide images. This approach aims to reduce the costs and delays associated with traditional genomic sequencing methods.
The company’s technology is particularly relevant for hematologists and pathologists dealing with blood cancers such as myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and non-small cell lung cancer. The recent funding will facilitate the expansion of a proprietary dataset that integrates whole slide imaging with genomic information, developed through an international clinical consortium. Additionally, the funds will support team growth and the necessary regulatory approval processes.
This funding round underscores the growing importance of AI in oncology, potentially transforming the speed and efficiency of cancer diagnostics. As Moonlight AI progresses, its innovations could significantly enhance clinical workflows and patient outcomes in cancer care.
