LG Chem has entered a strategic partnership with Lab-Genius Therapeutics to advance cancer drug development using AI technologies.

On the 18th, LG Chem announced a joint research and licensing option agreement with the British biotech firm Lab-Genius Therapeutics. This collaboration aims to discover new drug candidates specifically for multi-antibody anticancer therapies. As part of the agreement, LG Chem will provide an initial payment along with research funding to Lab-Genius, which will leverage its advanced platform that utilizes machine learning and high-throughput experimentation (HTE) to optimize therapeutic antibodies.

Lab-Genius's innovative approach involves a fully autonomous laboratory, enabling rapid candidate material searches and evaluations. This partnership is expected to significantly reduce the time typically required to identify new antibody drug candidates, which can exceed five years due to the complexities of protein structures. LG Chem aims to expedite the transition of these candidates into clinical phases, addressing the pressing medical needs in cancer treatment.

According to So Jin-eon, head of R&D at LG Chem, the collaboration is set to yield drug candidates that are not only more effective but also less toxic than current treatments. James Field, CEO of Lab-Genius, emphasized the importance of this partnership in showcasing their drug development platform's capabilities. The collaboration also aligns with broader trends, as the AI healthcare market is projected to reach approximately $14.79 billion by 2031, reflecting the growing integration of AI in life sciences.
