Juno Bio has successfully raised US$3.8 million to enhance its diagnostics platform focused on vaginal health and reproductive care.
This funding round, led by Ada Ventures and supported by Artesian, Entrepreneur First, and Illumina Accelerator, aims to facilitate the establishment of Juno Bio's first CLIA-certified sequencing laboratory in Oakland, California. The startup plans to launch a new clinical test that examines the vaginal microbiome and screens for common sexually transmitted infections (STIs), addressing a significant gap in women's health diagnostics.
Dr. Leighton Turner, co-founder and chief scientific officer, emphasized the need for a standardized measurement system to improve clinical understanding of the vaginal microbiome, which remains largely unexplored. By bringing testing in-house, Juno Bio aims to gain better control over sample handling and results, while building one of the largest datasets on the vaginal microbiome. This approach is expected to enhance diagnostic accuracy and treatment strategies for patients experiencing recurring symptoms.
