This collaboration will leverage Insilico's Pharma.AI platform, which specializes in target validation and molecule optimization. Insilico will focus on discovering and optimizing drug candidates based on targets identified by SK, which will handle late-stage development and commercialization. This strategic alliance marks a shift for SK, expanding its portfolio beyond epilepsy treatments, as exemplified by its successful drug, Xcopri®.
According to Alex Zhavoronkov, Insilico's co-CEO, the partnership is centered on drug development rather than merely target discovery, emphasizing the trust SK places in AI for drug design efficiency. Donghoon Lee, SK's president, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the collaboration's potential to accelerate innovative CNS therapies.
Insilico's focus on diverse therapeutic areas, including aging and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, positions it uniquely in the market. With a pipeline of over 40 programs, the company aims to utilize its AI capabilities to tackle challenging conditions, including neuroimmunology.
