Insilico Medicine Advances AI-Discovered IPF Drug Rentosertib into Phase III Trial

Insilico Medicine has announced the progression of its AI-discovered drug, Rentosertib, into Phase III trials, marking a significant advancement in the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).

This oral TNIK inhibitor, identified through Insilico’s Pharma.AI platform, aims to address the high unmet medical needs associated with IPF, a progressive lung disease characterized by scarring that severely affects respiratory function. The Phase IIa study demonstrated promising results, showing an improvement in lung function with manageable safety profiles.

Rentosertib’s development journey is notable for its reliance on AI technologies, including the identification of TNIK as a novel target through multi-omics data analysis and generative chemistry for molecule design. The upcoming Phase III trial will involve 320 patients and is designed to rigorously evaluate the drug's efficacy and safety over a year-long period.

This milestone not only reflects the potential of AI in drug discovery but also highlights the need for innovative therapies in age-related diseases like IPF.
