Apoha, a pioneering startup in AI-driven material science, has emerged from stealth with $36 million in funding to develop innovative substances based on unique liquid wave form data.
The funding comprises a seed round from 2024 and a recent unlettered round, led by Singular, with support from other venture firms and a grant from Innovate UK. Apoha aims to leverage a novel type of data—wave forms generated by materials in liquid under external forces—to enhance the creation and modification of various substances, including proteins and pharmaceuticals.
Apoha's technology, termed "liquid intelligence," captures over 1,000 distinct characteristics of materials in mere minutes, significantly reducing the time required for traditional lab tests. The company’s first product, VIBE (Variations in Inter-facial Behaviour Under Excitation), generates a detailed numerical profile that AI models can utilize for predictive analysis in drug development and other applications.
With partnerships in the pharmaceutical sector, such as with Boehringer Ingelheim, Apoha is demonstrating a high precision in screening drug candidates, potentially saving significant costs in clinical trials. The startup is also collaborating with various companies across biotech and food industries, highlighting its versatile applications. As Apoha scales its operations, it aims to expand its platform to accommodate a broader range of materials and clients, positioning itself as a transformative force in material science through AI.
