Poland is set to enhance its AI capabilities with the launch of the €70 Million Gaia AI Factory in Kraków, a project initiated under the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU).
This advanced supercomputer, operated by the Academic Computer Centre Cyfronet AGH, will boast a performance capacity of 10 exaflops, significantly surpassing the current fastest supercomputer in Poland, Helios. The infrastructure will incorporate over 1,000 GPU accelerators, specifically designed to handle AI training and inference tasks, thereby expanding the country’s computational power for various applications.
The Gaia AI Factory aims to bolster national AI computing capabilities through enhanced infrastructure and shared data access, as well as fostering AI skill development. Notably, its applications are expected to span healthcare analytics, large language model training, and satellite data processing, among others. Marek Magryś, director of ACC Cyfronet AGH, emphasized that this initiative is pivotal for establishing a comprehensive AI ecosystem in Poland, integrating infrastructure, data, and expertise to drive innovation across Europe.
The project is supported by multiple Polish ministries and is part of a broader European AI framework, linking with other initiatives like the PIAST and LUMI AI Factories. With the Polish High Performance Computing market projected to grow significantly, reaching an estimated US$ 980 million by 2033, the Gaia AI Factory is poised to play a crucial role in this transformative landscape, fostering advancements in both technology and healthcare.
