4DMedical Limited has announced the acquisition of the Vienna-based startup contextflow for over €11.4 million, marking a strategic expansion into the European market.
Founded in 2016, contextflow specializes in AI-driven software for lung diagnostics, focusing on conditions like lung cancer and COPD. Its flagship product, ADVANCE Chest CT, utilizes proprietary AI to analyze chest CT scans, aiding healthcare professionals in disease detection and management. The startup has garnered attention for its innovative approach and has secured a reimbursement agreement for early lung cancer detection in Germany, with anticipated revenue starting in 2025.
4DMedical, an Australian company listed on the ASX, is known for its advanced lung imaging technologies, including the patented XV Technology®. The acquisition is financially strategic, involving a cash payment and equity components, while also allowing 4DMedical to leverage contextflow’s tax loss carryforwards to offset future taxable income. This move not only enhances 4DMedical's presence in Europe but also strengthens its product offerings by integrating contextflow’s AI capabilities with its existing technologies.
The acquisition is expected to create a more comprehensive clinical pathway from detection to follow-up monitoring, particularly in established markets with reimbursement frameworks. As 4DMedical prepares to grow its European operations, the appointment of contextflow's former CEO as General Manager of 4DMedical Europe demonstrates a commitment to maintaining regional expertise and leadership.
