The Coalition for Decentralized Healthcare and Life Sciences (CDHLS) has gained recognition from the United Nations as a significant initiative in the AI governance landscape, particularly in healthcare.
This acknowledgment places CDHLS's initiative, “Decentralized Health Systems Adoption at Scale,” within three thematic areas of the UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance: Bridging AI Divides, Safe/Secure and Trustworthy AI, and Human Rights/Transparency and Oversight. The focus is on leveraging Decentralized AI (DeAI) technologies to meet healthcare needs that current commercial AI platforms fail to address effectively.
The limitations of existing commercial AI systems—such as reliance on general datasets, lack of transparency, and vendor dependency—highlight the necessity for CDHLS's structured framework. This framework aims to facilitate the adoption of DeAI technologies in healthcare through stakeholder engagement and ethical considerations.
CDHLS's initiative aligns with four UN Sustainable Development Goals, emphasizing its commitment to equitable healthcare access. With a geographic focus that includes the U.S., UAE, UK, and Canada, CDHLS aims for global implementation by 2027. Tory Cenaj, a co-founder of CDHLS, articulated that this recognition underscores the coalition's role in promoting decentralized technologies as a path to trustworthy and patient-centered AI in healthcare.
