The collaboration among BRICS countries aims to create robust healthcare systems that prioritize patient needs while addressing issues such as limited interoperability, chronic diseases, workforce shortages, and data governance. A significant resource in this effort is the BRICS Health Track Technical Working Group 4 Compendium, which outlines a framework for establishing effective digital health infrastructures.
During a recent event at the 16th BRICS Health Ministers' meeting, Sunil Kumar Barnwal, CEO of the National Health Authority, emphasized the collective goal of building interconnected healthcare systems despite the diverse health landscapes of member countries. He noted the importance of coordinated care, as highlighted in the compendium, which advocates for seamless health service delivery through interoperable infrastructures and responsible AI.
The event also facilitated knowledge sharing among BRICS delegates, showcasing successful initiatives like Brazil's National Health Data Network, which has transitioned to a unified health information system, and Indonesia's SATUSEHAT platform, designed to maintain care continuity across its vast archipelago. This exchange underscored that while AI holds great potential for healthcare improvement, its successful implementation hinges on high-quality, interoperable data and validated clinical practices.
