BioBuzz Networks has been awarded a grant to establish an AI-GMP Training Accelerator, aimed at enhancing the skills of Maryland's biotech workforce as part of the state’s broader initiative to integrate AI into regulated industries.
The Maryland Lighthouse Industries Upskilling and Reskilling Program, backed by a $1.23 million investment, will enable BioBuzz to train nearly 600 workers in the life sciences sector. This program focuses on upskilling existing employees at biotech development and manufacturing companies, empowering them to become knowledgeable in AI applications within Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) environments. The initiative addresses a critical barrier to AI adoption: the need for personnel who understand both the technology and the compliance requirements of the industry.
BioBuzz's CEO, Chris Frew, emphasized the importance of building internal expertise rather than relying solely on external resources. The program aims to foster a culture of AI adoption from within organizations, enhancing the workforce's capability to navigate regulatory scrutiny effectively. Collaborating with a consortium of partners, including ProcellaRX and others, BioBuzz is set to deliver a curriculum that combines AI training with GMP and regulatory knowledge.
Governor Wes Moore highlighted the program's goal of ensuring that no worker is left behind as technology evolves. By investing in the existing workforce, Maryland is positioning itself as a leader in the AI-driven life sciences sector. This initiative signals a strategic commitment to harnessing the skills of current employees as a pathway to innovation and growth in the biotech industry.
