Bar-Ilan University and Sheba Medical Center are launching a pioneering biotech research institute with a significant $120 million investment aimed at expediting the transition from laboratory discoveries to clinical applications.
The newly established institute, which will be located in Sheba's Health Tech Valley in Ramat Gan, is designed to focus on critical areas such as cancer research, AI diagnostics, 3D organ printing, robotics, and microbiome science. This initiative draws inspiration from the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) and is expected to foster a fully integrated healthcare ecosystem in Israel, enhancing collaboration among investors, entrepreneurs, and researchers.
Jessica Feldan, CEO of the American Friends of Bar-Ilan University, emphasizes that this institute will serve as an incubator to significantly reduce the typical 10 to 15 years it takes to bring health innovations from the lab to patients. Feldan argues that health innovation is poised to become a crucial economic driver for Israel, potentially generating jobs and attracting investments globally.
Additionally, the institute will include advanced facilities such as 15 laboratories dedicated to innovation and prototyping. This collaboration not only enhances the research capabilities of Bar-Ilan but also provides students with invaluable hands-on experience at Sheba, integrating academic and clinical education. As both institutions continue to work together, this initiative is set to elevate Israel's standing as a leader in medical innovation on the world stage.
