
AstraZeneca Korea is actively engaging in the AI-bio landscape, showcasing its collaborations at BIO KOREA 2026, the country’s premier bio-health convention.
During the Open Innovation session, Nick Passey, AstraZeneca's Head of International Commercial, Digital & IT Strategy, highlighted the company's commitment to enhancing Korea's AI-bio ecosystem. His presentation focused on the theme of accelerating drug development through AI-based open innovation, emphasizing AstraZeneca's collaborative efforts with startups, academic institutions, and government entities to achieve scalable healthcare solutions.
Among the notable collaborations are partnerships with Korean firms such as AIVIS and Lunit. AIVIS is innovating AI-driven digital pathology platforms for precision diagnostics, while Lunit is utilizing AstraZeneca’s international network to implement AI solutions for early cancer detection in chest X-rays and mammograms. These initiatives exemplify how Korean AI technologies are effectively integrated into clinical practices globally, facilitated by AstraZeneca’s extensive reach.
Passey also announced the upcoming launch of a "Korea Innovation Hub," aimed at fostering collaboration within AstraZeneca's global open innovation framework. This hub is intended to connect local innovations with global markets, thereby accelerating the international deployment of Korean AI-bio technologies. Eldana Sauran, General Manager of AstraZeneca Korea, further reiterated the company's dedication to aligning with government bio-health initiatives, ensuring a sustainable ecosystem that enhances patient care.
