Anthropic has officially launched a new office in Milan, its sixth location in Europe, aimed at bolstering support for local enterprises, researchers, and developers in the realm of AI applications.
This expansion comes amid rising discussions surrounding artificial intelligence in Italy's business, academic, and public sectors. Notably, it follows the release of *Magnifica Humanitas*, the first papal encyclical dedicated to AI, where Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah highlighted the ethical responsibilities tied to AI development and the necessity for collaboration among various societal sectors, including religious and governmental institutions.
With a focus on safety and advanced capabilities, Anthropic has already garnered interest from several Italian enterprises, including major players in finance like Generali Group and Unipol Group, as well as life sciences firms such as Angelini Pharma and Bracco Group. The Milan office, led by Thomas Remy, is also collaborating with JAKALA to implement Claude, their AI system, across a significant number of user seats, enhancing productivity by allowing senior team members to focus on more strategic tasks.
Additionally, the adoption of Claude extends to Italy's burgeoning tech startup scene. For instance, Satispay has utilized the AI to drastically shorten project timelines, while Bending Spoons reports that most of its code revisions are now co-authored with Claude. Beyond enterprise applications, Anthropic is also engaging with creative sectors, hosting workshops during Milan Design Week to illustrate how Claude can enhance design workflows. This initiative reflects Anthropic's commitment to fostering a responsible AI ecosystem in Italy, addressing the needs of businesses, researchers, and cultural institutions alike.
