Aiforia has successfully secured €20 million in venture debt aimed at advancing its AI-driven cancer diagnostics platform and enhancing its commercial activities.

The Helsinki-based life sciences firm obtained this funding from the European Investment Bank (EIB) via the European Commission’s InvestEU program. The financial package is structured in three tranches, starting with an initial €5 million, contingent upon Aiforia meeting specific revenue and performance milestones outlined in the financing agreement.

Aiforia's CEO, Jukka Tapaninen, emphasized that this agreement significantly bolsters the company's financial standing and aligns with its strategic objectives. The funding is expected to expedite product development and facilitate the company’s international expansion, ultimately aiming to enhance patient care through AI-enhanced image analysis solutions. Established in 2013 as a spin-off from the University of Helsinki, Aiforia has developed deep-learning software that aids pathologists and scientists in analyzing images for better diagnostic outcomes.

This investment comes at a critical time for the European healthcare sector, as highlighted by EIB vice-president Karl Nehammer, who noted the importance of fostering innovative technologies within Europe. Aiforia’s advancements not only contribute to the competitiveness of the European market but also position the company to thrive globally, addressing the pressing needs of modern healthcare.
