The Australian Epilepsy Project (AEP) has received a significant $30 million funding boost from the Federal Government, aimed at integrating its advanced brain health platform into the Australian healthcare system.

This funding will enhance access to innovative diagnostics for clinicians and hospitals, thereby improving the speed and quality of care for Australians suffering from epilepsy and other neurological conditions. Established in 2021 with an initial investment of $30 million, the AEP utilizes artificial intelligence to combine MRI scans, genetic data, and cognitive assessments, setting a new standard for epilepsy treatment in Australia.

The additional funds will not only expand the project's reach but also explore solutions for various brain disorders beyond epilepsy. This initiative aims to elevate the Australian med-tech industry and align with the strategic 'Ambitious Australia' plan. Professor Graeme Jackson, Chief Investigator at AEP, emphasized the transformative potential of digital technologies and AI in healthcare, particularly for rural and regional communities.

With over 2,100 patients already connected to more than 160 neurologists, the AEP is positioned to revolutionize brain health care in Australia. The investment signifies a commitment to fostering a robust health and medical research sector, ultimately aiming to enhance the quality of life for Australians and contribute to global health advancements.
