Uppsala Monitoring Centre
Pharmacovigilance science and safety surveillance for medicines and vaccines, supporting regulators and national authorities worldwide.
Overview
Uppsala Monitoring Centre (UMC) is a scientific organisation based in Uppsala, Sweden, focused on advancing the science of pharmacovigilance and improving the safety of medicines and vaccines globally. UMC serves national regulatory authorities, health ministries, and the pharmaceutical industry, providing products, services, and expertise that support pharmacovigilance systems at all levels of maturity. UMC also works in close collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), supporting international drug monitoring efforts and helping build capacity and effectiveness in safety surveillance worldwide.
UMC's work spans the full lifecycle of medicine and vaccine safety information, from data capture and management through to analysis, standardisation, and global sharing. The organisation combines scientific research with technological development, with active work in areas such as data-driven discovery, artificial intelligence, and the expansion of data sources available to safety surveillance.
